About the Book

In this stunning visual tribute to the smallest living things, Moss blends photography with natural history, musings, and meditations―inviting you to slow down, look closely, and find wonder wherever you are.

Seeking solace in her moss garden, Sansan Harashima was drawn to the miniature world beneath our feet. In Moss, she explores the fascinating lives of these ancient plants: how they grow, adapt, and thrive in unexpected places. Her macro photographs bring their intricate forms, textures, and colors into focus, revealing details that often escape our notice. Woven throughout are thoughtful reflections on what moss can teach us about slowness, adaptability, and resilience.

For gardeners, nature lovers, and anyone seeking stillness and comfort, Moss reveals the surprising beauty and quiet wisdom of mosses―and may forever change the way you see the world around you.

About the Author

Sansan Harashima (@mossgirlny) is a writer and photographer based in New York. She spent years in the fashion industry as a trend forecasting executive, developing a sharp eye for color, texture, and design. When her son Lucas was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare childhood cancer, she found herself drawn to the moss in her own backyard and began photographing and writing about it, building an online community around the simple beauty she'd found. She is also cofounder of the Love4Lucas Foundation, which supports DIPG research.
